Only two authentic pizza places in Michigan City, Roma's and Albano's and the latter is the best option. I've been there many times and I always love the pizza and cheap beer. Although I live in Chicago which has a plethora of pizza joints; I have to admit I still like look forward to Albano's when I'm visiting Michigan City......

This place is awesome, I mean AWESOME! The thin crust pizza is better than New York or Chicago or heck better than when I was in Italy! Their homemade sausage is amazing. The crust is amazing. The cheese and seasoning and everything is amazing. WOW.

Classic pizza place stuck in time. If this place had a cocktail Ms. Pacman it would be perfect. Oozes 1970s charm. Pitchers of beer, liters of house wine. Pizza arrives super hot with fresh tasting toppings. Definitely use a fork to start. Service has always been very responsive. Nothing fancy, but it's a good price.

Fairly good pizza and good salads. The atmosphere feels like and old time pizza place. The pizza is cut into strips, rather than pie shape or squares, just to be different probably.

Two months ago I would have given this place four stars, but because of our take out experience last night, I have to bump it down. How can you mess up a sausage pizza? Put it on cardboard and hold the salt. I'm sad to write this because my first experience in their dining "cave" was so memorable. The atmosphere is quirky and fun, and the pizza at the time was great. The Taco Bell-like tacos are a childhood throwback for my partner. That time alone kept us coming back for more. But after last night's disappointment, we might have to reconsider. I've heard the Albano's Pizza Inc in La Porte is better. Maybe it was an off night for them, but when people put their hard earned money down on food, it has to always hit the spot. I hope things improve and I have to rewrite this review one day.

I love their pizzas and tacos, very good and brought out very fast by friendly wait staff! You should definitely try their pepperoni, and if you like that sort of thing with pineapple. The only downside is the small parking area mentioned by other reviewers.

I'm not sure what happened here, did the pizzeria change hands? The pizza used to be the best in town, but now it's little more than a Tombstone-like pizza. If you look at the back of the pizza, it looks like a pre-made crust and maybe the whole thing was pre-made. It was a very disappointing experience if you were planning on enjoying an old-school Albano's pizza... The staff were very kind and attentive though!

Atmosphere alone is a selling point. Some call it "The Cave". Some call me "The Cave Master" that is why I am recommending this place. Good pizza, no refills on soda, only iced t and lemonade. Parking lot sucks.

When we visit Michigan City, Albano's is the only pizza place I want to visit! The price is right, the size of the pizza is as expected, and it's just the best pizza you'll find. I'm not going to tell you this pizza is some high end, healthy dinner. It just isn't. Have you ever had a time where all you wanted was a hot and steamy, greasy, flavorful pizza that was practically dripping with cheese? The pizza of daydreams! Well, it's at Albano's. You might feel some guilt of the cheese bomb you're about to drop on yourself but it is oh-so worth it! It's nice to be able to call ahead and pick up at the front window! Not your thing? Go ahead and sit down in the restaurant dining area! The staff is friendly and you'll feel at home. There's a menu of sandwiches and pasta if you're in the mood for anything else! Swear off chain pizza forever, because they'll never be able to top this local joint!

The pizzas were average. You will get your pizza faster if you were to order to go vs. eat-in. The dining area has not enough lighting. The only time I ate in the service was a little bit slow. They have free parking.

The never-updated inside of this restaurant deserves 5 stars because it's amaaaazing. The pizza? 2 stars. Unless you were forced to eat the pizza as a child and developed some sort of Stockholm syndrome, really, you will be disappointed with this pizza place. The pizza comes in only two sizes (small and large) and, while cheesy, the toppings are really shameful. The pepperoni is some of the worst I've ever had, the sausage tastes kinda like breakfast sausage instead of italian sausage, and even the veggies were icky. Canned mushrooms are a big no no.

Old school 60/70's decor. Great service, outstanding pizza. Tons of cheese, bordering on too much...we almost ordered extra cheese, YIKES! No arguing this is very good pizza at a great price.

Yummy pizza, tasty Italian beef. We split a sandwich and ate about half of a small pizza. Our total was about $13 dollars. The waitress was really nice, the interior was divey and weirdly shaped, the jukebox was well stocked with oldies. For $2, we dined to Johnny Cash, the Beatles, Willie Nelson, Brown Eyed Girl, and a few other timeless classics. The booths are low-backed and made of wood...there are no chairs. There are some murals of life in the "old country" and in the dining room there are "wise words" from sources such as the Bible, actors, and theologians. There were only 3 tables of customers on St Patrick's Day eve...the middle-aged couple across from us were singing along with the songs we played and playing "name that tune" with each other. I like this place. Sausage is the real deal...slices from a big link, not the "balls" most places in Indy use.

After moving away from the area, I've had friends that come to visit me smuggle this stuff like Columbian drug lords. Maybe it's because I grew up on this pizza and all I have where I live now is that horrible chain crap that doesn't even qualify as pizza. When I came back to visit a few months ago, this was my first stop and I wasn't disappointed. Yes, it has changed a little over the years, but that is expected. Love the dark dining room, it's the one thing that you remember most as a child dining here. Keep up the great work! Meanwhile, send Vinny with another large, I'm missing it again :)

It's the local flavor and history that make it special. The tacos and pizzas taste exactly the same as they did ages ago, and half the jukebox selections are the same, too. Like it here in summer, but Tony's in Valpo in Winter.

After reading the rave reviews ordered a pizza. It was essentially a Domino's pizza: lot of cheese, flavorless sauce, bready crust. At $5, the Domino's was a better choice.

This has become a bit of a childhood memory. I love coming here when i am in town. Nothing says a full belly like pizza and tacos!

Best pizza in town! I've been eating here for all of my life. Heart shaped pizza's on Valentine's Day, how sweet? My favorite pizza I have ever eaten. Dense crust with big, fresh toppings. Pretty good Tacos too, strangely enough. Carryout is super, eat in is a MC tradition. Same family has owned and ran this place since it opened. Lot to be said for that. Give it a try, enjoy!

It's a local favorite and, for many, especially the older generations, it simply IS the definition of pizza. My family still visits each time we return and the food seems exactly the same to me. Very good! I recommend the deep dish and the taco pizza! My advice: 1. When a patron is picking up a $50 carry-out order and asks for a glass of water and you charge him 16 cents to cover the cost of the cup, you're embarrassing yourself. Tacky. 2. Clean up the areas by the restrooms. If you need storage space, get rid of something in the back. Don't stack junk in the hallway to the restrooms. It's unprofessional, tacky and takes the atmosphere from "nostalgia" to "dump." Sorry, but it's true. We'll still visit but would love to see you show a little pride.

Amazing pizza with friendly service, and INCREDIBLE atmosphere. Really, the place looks like a cave, and the walls are adorned with witty quotes. There are no windows. The lighting is warm and dim. The booths are amazing wooden slabs sticking out of the wall. I just love being here. The pizza is delish, especially the taco pizza. The only drawbacks? Competitive, narrow parking lot and no free refills on soda. Get the lemonade, tea, or water and you can avoid one problem. Second best pizza in Michigan City, but a CLOSE second. (To Roma's)

Pre-made crust, contadina sauce, and delicious cheese. Sausage was good too. Very bizarre place. The walls are covered with "words of wisdom". Here's some words for you, whoever owns this place: What the hell are the beer taps doing back by the bathroom? Interior itself is like a Frank Lloyd Wright nightmare, particularly the tables and booths. Very dark and old school, would probably be cooler and busier if the food were better.

Having grown up in Gary and Michigan City, Albanos was always a favorite. When i go back for a visit, have to have one or two pizzas.

Really 3.5 stars. The boy and I went in here not expecting much and found the place to be just average. We ordered pizza and breadsticks. Everything was fine. It was good. It fulfilled my pizza craving. The service was fine, our order was taken quickly, we were provided plenty of water and our check came promptly. The waitress wasn't overly friendly, but that was fine too. Price-wise...average as well, just what I'd expect to pay for a pizza. There were some interesting pieces of wood with quotes on the walls...I'm not really sure why, and they seemed really random. I guess it added a bit of ??? to the place.

If you're ever out in Michigan City visiting the Lighthouse Place outlet mall, stop at Albano's for fresh delicious pizza on your way home. Family joint, very friendly. The taco pizza is a must have!

When in Michigan City and hungry for pizza I get the "masterpiece" from Albano's, their number is in my cell phone. I would rate it above average, and the only choice for pizza in Michigan City. It has a nice crust, not too much salt, just the right amount of sausage. I always order mine to go, because their cave-like, windowless dining room makes me claustrophobic.
